An interesting seal from the 3rd century AD
Lot 1254
SEALS, Roman. Seal (Lead, 32 mm, 7.84 g, 12 h), mid 3rd century AD. BAN[A] - OΓΓCΓ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of an uncertain Roman emperor to right. Rev. ANAB - OΓΓCΓ (the second part retrograde) Emperor standing front, head to left, holding Victory in his right hand and spear with his left. An interesting seal of excellent style. Good very fine.
An interesting detail of this seal is that the obverse legend is inverted on the reverse: BANA becomes ANAB, while OΓΓCΓ reappears completely retrograde
